Holly Wick is the founder of interiors emporium Holly's House and neighbour to our design studio in leafy Parson's Green. Inside Holly's House you'll find an eclectic mix of designer and vintage furniture alongside quirky lighting and minimal kitchenware. Our wish list is endless and we could not help but fall in love with everything her store had to offer.
We sat down with her to find out how it all started, her daily routine and what she requires from her wardrobe. Here's what she had to say...
Can you tell us a bit about your story? How did Holly's House come about?
After university I was adamant that I wanted to work in fashion and I found my way into styling. I loved parts of the job, but it wasn't what I wanted to do long term. After working on my own home a bit I became obsessed with interiors and decided to sign up for an interior design course at KLC school of design. It all went from there and after working freelance for few different interior designers I came up with the concept of Holly's House and just went for it!
Where does your passion for interiors come from?
Definitely from my mum- she's an artist so I was brought up surrounded by a passion for all things creative!
Where do you source your eclectic mixture of homeware?
We now design and manufacture a portion of our product range, and the rest is sourced from all around the world. We go to a lot of trade shows around Europe to meet new suppliers.
What are your go-to wardrobe staples?
I am definitely a jeans girl, although I try not to wear them every day! With my job I do a lot of running around, so I do find jeans an easy go-to. For footwear, in the winter I normally wear boots. I try to find a couple of pairs I adore every season, then they never normally come off my feet for the whole winter! And I adore knitwear- I can never have enough cosy knits.
How do you make your clothes work for you and your busy lifestyle?
I have to sometimes remind myself that I need to be comfortable yet presentable- I used to attempt to wear high heels at work, but I have since learned that moving a sofa in heels makes life that little bit harder! So I just try to keep this in mind and make sure I'm not restricted by what I wear. Also what I wear has to reflect my style as a designer. I think our clients should be able to relate to our style in the way that we present ourselves.
Name one style rule all women should break.
Oh gosh, that's hard! Well I never tend to listen to what colours suit me at all - I just wear the colours I love and make it work, which probably breaks every rule there is!
Who's your style muse?
I adore Diane Kruger and Kate Mara's style- a little bit edgy but still elegant. I also follow quite a few bloggers as I often have contact with them for work- Lucy Williams at Fashion me now has a great style, I love her outfits.
What does #dressupineveryday mean to you?
To me it means dress to feel your best every day- you feel so much better about yourself if you make just a little effort to look good!
And finally …
Earliest style memory: dressing up in all the clothes in my mums amazing wardrobe, which I still do!
The best thing about my job is: the freedom to come up with new ideas and being around all these lovely things!
My favorite season is: autumn (on nice crisp autumn days, not rainy ones!)
I collect: paint samples… not on purpose though!
My typical breakfast is: Sheeps milk yoghurt with muesli, berries & honey
Before bedtime, I always: Give my dog Mabel way too many treats and a massive hug
If I wasn't running Holly's House, I would be: working in fashion I think…
